This companion cube was made from the coordinates from the source files in the game. I assumed Valve used inches as their units, but this ended up a little larger than I expected, so I'm a little unsure if I made the right assumptions about units. There are almost 400 separate pieces in the cube, and all have been backed with craftfuse. It took me over a year off and on to finally finish this project. When I did, my friend Xan made me a portal cake! Thanks Xan! I love this shot of the cake and the cube together as friends!

I'm working on a companion cube ottoman, could you post a tutorial or some tips for those who want to make their own friends?

I'm working on that, but organizing everything into a usable form is taking more time that I expected. What would you like to see covered in a tutorial? That might help me know what's most important to cover.

I like going through the Instructables style format. First everything needed to recreate your piece, patterns for the shapes or how to create your own pattern, what step goes when, etc. LOL, like a photo montage of you creating a second one with a typed explanation. . . though it took forever to make the first so I think that may be harassing you for a bit much. I'm going to take a stab at making one that I found instructions for at instructables and will post my results but to make a companion cube love-sack-esk creation would be AMAZING! (my husband and I are going to make a aperture living room when we buy our first house so we will need plenty of mods or ideas for portal themed furniture)

Well, I did take *some* pictures of the process when I was making the first one, though there are huge gaps in the process. I keep thinking that I'll *actually* blog about my stuff, but I don't have time to work, craft, and blog, so blogging is the thing that falls by the wayside. I'm considering trying to reproduce my patterns digitally. I still have all of them, they are just not exactly transferable over the internet in their current form. But again, not enough time for everything. After Dragon*Con I should have time to reevaluate everything. But if you ever have a specific question, I'm really good at answering those.
